There's nothing sporty about a FWD wagon like the Jetta. No offense meant. It is just a marketing phrase, same as the 4-door coupes.

I understand, just saying its more sporty than you think a diesel wagon would be. I chose to give up some of that to gain some major MPG's.

We rented Opel Insignia in Spain this past summer with a diesel engine, sport suspension and 19" wheels. That car drove fantastically, so i see your point about diesels.

Done right it'll be a great driving experience, diesel or not. Many modern cars and even SUVs handle amazingly well esp if you compare to cars of the 90s.

There are low mileage Volvo V70R's out there, AWD, 300hp and 6spd. I drove one at a dealer a bit ago, it was a nice performer. There's lots of go-fast goodies if you want more power, and they are not crazy expensive.

It just doesn't sit very high, so do not attempt any off-roading with it. Not great in deep snow either, you can bottom out on unplowed streets.

But otherwise a great package. If I'm not mistaken 60R/V70R only came with a manual.

I'm not sure about the V60R, but you could get V70R's with an Auto.

The guy I bought my '02 m/t from had the same req'mnts, and ended up ordering a new 5-series beemer wagon. If I were you, that's what I'd do and let the rest of the world deal with the stigma, it's not your problem.

Why not try to find a newer A4 Avant with 6-speed. I think they stopped making them in 2008, so there has got to be some good used ones lurking around. 200HP isn't as good as the 250 you have now but the gas milage will be way better. Plus if you miss the 250 HP you could always go with the APR stage1 ECU flash which gives you a little more then 250HP plus 300 ftlbs of torque. I just flashed my wifes 2009 GLI and that thing rips now.
Its so sad that the people who love driving standards are forced into this situation. This is only going to get worse. Stop the takeover of these damn DSG's.
