Did you have them deactivated or did yours not come with them, as they were optional?
This has been a long-standing debate and there are some who will hate you for bringing it up as it gets me on a rant again
I was worried about the deployment into the cabin on the rears and have it on good advisement from many here and from AoA that they only deploy into the area immediately in front of their location in the seat (not the same as the newer curtain ones but only along the door jamb). I also have looked at the A3 design (which is different I know) which shows how the bags are set up for it....I don't think even the Bentley shows how these exactly work on ours...

Glad to know the tank held up well. I assume the Altima looked not nearly so good. One question...
....though. If you were turning left wouldn't the right side of the car been the one hit?
