Default New tires that no one has tried yet

I just had Sams club put on Michelin Energy mxv4 plus that are H speed rated (225/55/17). Removed Pilots that were W speed rated (same size)

Impressions: The mxv4's are quieter for sure at highway speeds. Went out on some country roads and played around on some curvs. I think the pilots handled better but there was not a significant difference. The cost of the new tires was $600.00. I think for the price and much quieter ride the mxv4's are a great buy.

Default Re: New tires that no one has tried yet

Got the same tires put on mine last week. Got a $252.00 dollar credit back from Pirelli for my OEM tires. They were badly cupped and feathered after 16,000 miles. Had rotated them 3 times as well.

So far so good w/ these Michelins.....but a jet would have been quieter then running w/ the old tires.

Default MXV4s are hardly new - they're very common touring tires. Have a set on my GTI...

which I can bearly keep from going off the road with these tires! ;-)

The MXV4s do what they advertize, very well. They last a while, work relatively well in all weather conditions, and are quiet. Performance isn't even an afterthought in the construction of these tires, and they let go at the slightest urging.

The 4167 pound allroad can turn inside the ~2900 lb GTI, simply because of the difference in grip between the Pilot Sport A/Ss and the MXV4s. No question what I'd rather be breaking/turning with! =)

Default I had the MXV non A/S version on my old 300CE MBZ - a very average tire...

There's nothing special about em. Frankly, I was suprised that MBZ put such a cheap tire on such an expensive car. Their best trait is that they're unobtrusive.

Default My theory on tires like this is that they are OEM tires sold in massive quantities at cheap prices..

to car makers. The only reason they sell them aftermarket is for people that ruin one and have to replace it with a match to the existing tires on the car. That is the only way they can possibly get those prices for such a mediocre tire.

Wifey's new Jetta has these things. She got a nail through the sidewall with 2,500 miles on the car. When I was quoted the price for this lack luster tire I almost bought four Pilots instead. It was only her intervention that stopped me since she said she could 'live' with them until they wear out.

I can't imagine buying a set of 4 of these things. But to each his own. This is my theory and if you are enjoying your tires than perhaps the theory has been disproven.

Default When I switch to the RS 6 replica wheels, I think I will. . . tires:

switch to Continental Extreme ultra high-performance all season tires size 245 x 45 x 18 -- living in Cincinnati the home of "moderate" winters with respect (generally) to snow fall, snow retention and temperatures.

Perhaps these tires would not work further north (east or west) but I think the reports on the Tire Rack (which includes a comparison with/to my Pilot Sport A/S's) have swayed me to try these; and, I don't want to go with a summer and winter tire / wheel combo.

My only question (and the dealer didn't know, but assumed the answer was YES) is, can I transfer my Audi factory Tyre Pressure Monitoring system to the replica RS 6 wheels?

Again, I assume that since the sending units are attachted to the valve stems that the answer must be yes.

Had MXV4's on my Saab. They were scary bad in the wet, and were a bit on the noisy side. replaced them with CH95 Conti touring tires.fairly good tires for the $$$.

Default Tire pressure sencers, check the inner surface, I sitll have not transfered mine .

and have not checked, past experence with my Corvette's pressure sencers need a flat surface inside and out at the valve stem hole.

Default I put those continentals on 3000 miles ago

they have been great so far. no complaints! Grip is the best I have seen in an A/S tire. they are relatively quiet, are great in the rain, provide good turn in and have been great all around.

I haven't tried them in the snow yet. If the snow flies in Denver before I put on dedicated winter tires in October, I'll post an update on how they are do.

Default Re: I put those continentals on 3000 miles ago

I put ExtremeContacts on my 2001 S4. Ride, noise, and handling were all great compaired to Pirelli P6000 that were OEM. Lots of vibration however. The Audi dealer said all four tires were out of round. Tirerack said this was one in a million occurence. Continental wanted to check the tires themselves. I resolved the problem by trading for a new Allroad. Incentives were too good to pass up. My lease payment is $539/month on a 36 month lease at 12,000 miles/year. This was $100/month less than my S4. Out of pocket expenses were the the first month's payment plus the $1000 I was under on the the payoff on my S4 which had seven months left on it's lease.
