anybody on the forum tried all three on the allroad?
i have read through the many posts on tires here, but was just wondering if anyone has 2 cents to throw in that has used them personally...
I live in Portland Oregon and am looking for a great all season to leave on year round. Obviously, being in PDX, I drive in the rain 6 months out of the year, throw in 20-30 trips to the mountain with a fair amount of snow, and the rest is summer hiway/coastal twistie driving...
cost is not so much of a factor as value and performance are...
I have found all 3 locally and I have a shop on hold today to do the Nokian WR for $800 all inclusive...

Dunlop wintersport M3's. Just traded in my 2.7 ar. I had them on the car for 40k of the 50k I drove it for. Live in NY north of NYC. Lots of snow and rain. Awesome in rain and VR rated for some high speed blasts. They arent good, they are great and I would get them again. I used them all year around. I have 18 inch wheels now on my 4.2 and they have summer HP pirelli's. For winter I'm trying the Nokians -- just for a change. Of the three you mentioned I would go with the Nokians. If you are gonna do year round --get the VR rated 235 -55-17's . Higher load rated and vr rating worth it. Fit not an issue.

I am a NOOB to this...
so is that tire going to be bigger or smaller than the 225/55/17's...
I have seen other posts which mention people going with 225/45/17's etc but am confused as to what this is going to do to the handling of the car...does it make it better? or just the same
thanks

I ran them for close to a year in Minnesota until I purchased 18" summer tire/wheel set up. They will be going back on in a week for winter. The Nokians handle the snow, ice and wet roads great. There are other tires such as the mentioned Dunlop M3s that should work well also. The WR size for the ar is now listed under SUVs on the Nokian website. Below is a link. The site also has a dealer locator. The biggest negative to Nokians is limited dealerships. Dunlops are available most anywhere.

http://www.nokiantyres.com/suv_product_en?product=610502&name=NOKIAN+WR+S UV</a

find the nearby wheel offset calculator on that site to understand that issue

Smash Screen HERE

he he but seriously if you do a search on 17 inch sizing on this board you'll see some interesting ideas from folks who have tried all sizes. the 235's work and are smidge bigger/taller and will cause a 1.5% error on you error speedo. other than that no prob. I got them because the stock size only comes in HR and I wanted VR.
