Default Off topic, Question on Epoxy coating for garage floors-professional cost

I have been wanting to coat my garage floor for some time. I was going to go the Dupont kit route that sells in most home improvement stores for around $150 for 2 plus car. I have a customer that does just Epoxy for industries, etc. They do side work and would do my garage. They would sandblast the floor, Epoxy it, put a pattern in it and then seal it. They claim the Dupont kits don't last due to not being a real Epoxy and there is no top coat to seal. They want $2400 to do my garage which is 610sf. Does that sound reasonable or insane?

Default Sounds insane to me, but what the hell do I know. Call a contractor and get and estimate for a

similar coating?

Default I got a pile of quotes for mine - that sounds high.

The guys who shot-blast are usually more expensive than those who acid-etch, but they tend to be religious about the dangers of acid-washing.

IIRC, my quotes were about $1.60-$3.00/s.f. for two coats. I ended up paying $1315 for my 3-car garage which is 710 s.f. That's for two coats of 60% solids epoxy.

If doing it again, I would probably pay the extra $.30-.40/sf for 100% solids material - it gives a much greater film thickness and would cover the texture of the concrete better.

Make sure they do a really good job filling the expansion joints with very good, stable caulk. That's the only failure I've had (14 months), where the epoxy has cracked on a couple of the caulk lines.

Default Sounds very high. I paid $1400 for 1600sq ft. Blast, acid wash and 2 coats of a 2 part epoxy.

Default Re: I about dropped when she told me the price, but wasn't sure what to

expect. I will have to hunt around to see what it would run. I am not sure I know anyone who does this for residential. She tried to tell me it would normally run me around $4k to $6k for my garage. The Dupont Epoxy runs under $200, I thought maybe it would run $1000.

Default nelims seems more in line, I have a quote from a good painter to do mine at $800 for 780 sq ft

that would be power washing, acid etching/prep, and expoy (the best of Sherwin Williams industrial 2 part epoxy).
