So what should we expect for mileage on a new boot before failure?

Default Why? Once I've changed the boot I'll clean off as much grease as I can but I'm not going to make it

new and shiny looking because it's only going to get dirty again.

Default I cant give you a number as I don't keep stats but I advise you inspect them with every oil change

Inspect the front wheels and control arms for slung grease.

Default Gr8 explanation, thanks! Maybe the outer CV joint is weaker on purpose...

since it's a relatively cheaper fix than a bad inner. Like it's "fuse" that is made to break first so the more expensive components don't take the strain. Then again, maybe I'm nuts!

I found both the 10 mm triple-square and the 17 mm allen at AutoZone.

Do you have a picture or drawing of the tripod? So it allows the length of the axle to change?

Thanks ... I called Sears and they have a set of four triple squares (6mm,8mm,10mm,12mm) made by SK.

Default Pep Boys carries these as "internal metric allen drivers" or something like that they are with the

specialty tools. FWIW

Default Here you go....the cylinder allows the tripod to travel in or out as well as providing some

angle movement for the axle.
