Oxygen Sensor replacement
I've got a bad O2 sensor (B1/S1) that needs to be replaced. Rather than drop $400 (as quoted) at my local shop, I'm looking at buying a sensor myself and slapping it in. I've read a few posts on sensor replacement here but have yet to find a "tech article" type with step by step instruction. I know what tools I need. I guess the one answer that will save me time is ... where is the B1S1 sensor located?? (I know its passenger side ... just looking for easiest route)
Thanks.
Thanks.

Front sensors are tough, you can try down from the top with a crowsfoot
might work, or drop, back of engine support some and try to reach up with an open end. Of course if you have a Tip it's harder.

Re: How old is the vehicle? I think emissions related items are covered beyond the standard warrant
Its an '01 w/ 72k. Still within the 80k emissions warranty but O2 sensors are not covered under that extended portion of the warranty - only up to 24k(?) I think.

Re: Oxygen Sensor replacement
Front right (passenger sensor) is located on the downpipe, just above the pre-cat. As Ex-P mentioned, it's not easy (is there anything on these cars that is?), but it's not impossible either.
The sensor is mounted in such a fashion that it's tilted towards the center of the car. On my '03 MT, I wound up buying a deep socket-type O2 sensor tool and accessing the sensor from across the engine compartment using probably 3 feet of extensions.
Go slow, take off some of the intake ducting from the airbox to give yourself some wiggle room and to more easily thread the wiring, and it'll work. Just make sure to put plenty of antiseize on the new sensor threads before installation.
Good luck.

I've done mine
You need the C shaped oxygen sensor wrench, and an 18" long 3/8 drive extension bar. It's in there really really REALLY tight. Don't be surprise if your extension bar bends 90 degrees before it breaks loose. Also, you should disconnect the cable before unscrewing and that makes it much easier. Make sure the new one has some anti seize on the threads (usually they come with it). Screw the new one in by hand and make it nice and tight.
