I saw in the archives you had replaced the inner boot/joint. On my S4 the outer boot is toast, so I am replacing the joint and the boot, while looking at the job and getting my parts list, I noticed the inner boot has a nice spray of grease on the heatsheild (~1/8-1/4" wide stripe). I am planning on replacing the boot only but was curious where you were able to get parts for the inner boot, and did you notice is the joint itself was bad? or just the boot? I don't see any cracks in the boot, it looks like it is just coming from around the clamp. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I could try to move the axle to and fro with no real play at all, but I had a vibration under acceleration. Eventually I pulled the whole axles out and once they were on teh bench it was clear that the inner joints were as sloppy as crap. Since both were bad I ended up just sending my axles in to raxles.com for rebuild with 4 new joints.
Mine looked the same as yours - no problem with the boot but it seems that the grease gets out around the boot somehow and leaves that stripe on the heat shield. Once the joint gets to dry it just destroys itself. Whats the mileage on your car?

for outboard joint and inboard boot. I kinda hope the inboard joint is fine, it felt fine on the car. I guess worst case I do the inner joint in the near future.
