Default Parking garage pole jumped out and bit the allroad - pics and advice? :(...

After driving her all over the country I was careless/in a rush the other day (very few cars in the garage) and swung the nose out the wrong way
Result
Some scraping on the plastic and dents and scraped on the driver front qtr panel

Brought her to local recc'd body shop in SF, Karri's (sp?)

He said about $450 to pull/finish the dents and repaint
or around $2200 to replace bumper, wheel flare and qtr and repaint, inlcuding stripping half? the hood to blend in the paint?

I am very leery to do anything, taking things apart, stripping good paint on hood

I bought some paint and clear coat and paint cleaner from paintscratch.com

Was also going to get some turtle wax/buffing type compound to rub off the red paint then touch up

Dont want the scratches to rust either
Also don't want some to claim frame damage if and when goto resell (not that I plan on anytime soon)

Thanks

G

450 is about right and all you probably need. no reason to repalce the plastic parts.

Nobody's ever going to call that frame damage. Take the less expensive route.

Default Sorry to hear this... A very straight forward repair. The left front fender flair will

require full paint coverage as will the front bumper. A flat type finish is impossable to blend out perfectly.
The left front fender (qtr panels are in the rear) will have a blend from front to rear hopefully stopping the blend no further back than that side marker light, a clear coat will cover the whole fender.

If it were my car I would stress the poind if at all possable to stay out of the hood. But that is just me. If the guy is a good painter he should be able to tint the paint to a very close match. Most of todays shops do not do this anymore and it is sadly becoming a lost art. In doing autobody and paint for many years I found that the best match to Audi is Spies-Hecker paint. But that has been many years back.

If your hood has many chips now might be the time to get that taken care of.

My whole reasonong with staying out of the hood if possable is that repair paint is never as good as oe it will fail far sooner than the factory's original in most cases. Especially on the horizontal surfaces. Although todays acylic urethane paint is a lot better than the stuff of 20 years ago.

Take it in have it done and drive away, it'll look like nothing has ever been done

Default thx, shop rec'd replace all if going thru ins (amica), i may just buff and touch up for now

I havent checked my deductable
Nor do I want to have my rates raised

Shop also mentioned they bumpers aren't painted, but it seems a diff color under the scratches
Also I imagine if there is an color applied to bumper, it would hard to adhere new paint to plastic

Shop was rec'd by indy and on yelp

Is there any preferred buffing stuff I can get easily?
Already got the cleaner, base and clear coat touch up

http://www.yelp.com/biz/karrys-auto-body-center-san-francisco#hrid:f3JAg0WAHDWFgceKshutNw/query:karry</a
