I did search the archives and found a lot of people looking for a solution
I did a google search and found a site that sells paint protection film precut for the front of the Audi *and* in bulk (for the rear bumper).

place to buy paint protection film

Re: protecting top of rear bumper?
I constantly use the storage area of my avant, moving everything from my work backpack to my bicycle to groceries, to who knows what...
So a bathmat or other movable solution doesn't work for me. I want something semi-*permanent* on the top of the bumper so I don't have to think about it ahead of time.
I have a blanket in the back of the car for protecting the carpet when necessary, but I just won't move it every time I haul something in or out of the car.
Lazy? No. Pragmatic!
