Default Radio Display says "SAFE" -- What the hell?

Have a 2004 AllRoad with about 80K miles.

Turned on the radio (factory stock Bose system) yesterday morning and it didn't really turn on. It just displays the word "SAFE" in the radio display and it also says "SAFE" in driver information system between the speedo and tach.

What the heck is this? It worked fine the last time I drove it and now all of a sudden it won't turn on and says "SAFE". Pressing every button on the radio does nothing

Need my tunes

Thanks in advance for the help.

Default Musta lost power -- you need to get the radio code from the spare tire well...

and then input it via the instructions in the owner's manual. No biggie.

If that doesn't work there may be a short -- if you can find someone nearby with a VAG-COM they'll be able to research the issue.

Default Is the headunit the original one that came with the car, or has it been swapped out? If it's the

original one, on the 2004, you shouldn't need the radio code. I didn't on mine.

If it goes into safe mode, that may mean it's not connecting to the car properly. You may need to pull the headunit and check the connections in the back.

Default yes it is.. its the first set of 4 numbers larger than the rest.

In this example the dafe code is 0152.
Assuming its the original radio that the car was built with.
