Hey guys.
I have a P0300 (random multiple misfire) on cylinders 4, 5, & 6.
I'm also leaking oil like it's nobody's business.
Oil drops down to my exhaust, makes smoke, scares the hell out of me.
>Basically everyone has told me it's a Valve Cover Gasket.
Wondering how much you think this may cost?
I plan on doing most of the labor myself and am dropping a car off next Wednesday at a Euro shop by me which is very good (European Concepts) out in here in Greensburg, PA so they can diagnose the problem due to me not being a genius and not having vagcom.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Stories of what you did will also be looked into.
I also plan on doing the 402 mod when I'm at the shop as well.

Haha, I didn't either. They are the two little chip looking things mounted on your air box. Each has a few wires going in and a few going out. Just swap the two wires from one to the other, and vice versa.
This will tell you if the ICM's are your issue. I made the mistake of overlooking them when my 2.7T was misfiring, replaced all my coil packs, and figured it out after it was still running poorly. I hope you are a 2.7T, since it might be a different design on the 4.2.
I am a little skeptical of whether this will work, but it might. If it does, it means one of your ICMs is bad.
FYI, if it is one of them, the old style ICMs work too. I got one for free from a junkyard and the car immediately ran like new.

"What in the manner of horrible things has occurred under my bonnet!"
So I decided to do some more investigating and discovering after taking off the diverter valves and opening up the bipipe from the throttle body boot and sadly found out that there was an impressive amount of oil there.
So right now, I have a valve cover gasket leak, a potential turbo seal leak, and a lot of cleaning to do.
All of this adds up to probably be causeing my check engine light being on with a multiple miss fire.
What am I looking at fellas? (time and money) [Doing labor myself]
What should I do?
ECS, got an options/suggestions?
I'd kill to hear from paulroad right now...

On the oil leak...yep, 2.7s usually all will start to leak back there and drip onto the exhaust. Doing mine at 174K asap. Prolly will take the better part of an afternoon, when I find the time.
What mileage is yours at?
