Default Rear Diff problems..

Hello from Spain !!

I am looking for a second hand rear diff, for a 2.5 TDI Allroad, with manual gearbox 6 speed.

If it is in Europe, much better so i dont have to pay a lot for shipping and taxes.

Thanks

Alfredo

Default Thuds during acceleration!

Hi, I have a '02 Allroad and I am noticing several thuds from the rear (i think) when accelerating, it usually happens under a lot of tourqe. I have a suspicion it might be the rear diff! Did you have this problem before replacing it? Or does anyone know what the problem could be? Many thanks

Hello!!

Well...i really dont know what a thud sound like, but the problems that i had were mainly vibrations, and a big shake when making sharp turns at low speeds....

In this cars, and in almost all the 4x4, this problems exists when they use different tyres in front and rear. Then all the diff suffer a lot... and the gearbox also (all the transmission). Also that noise that you can hear, happens more in first and second gear, when accelerating and less in 5th and 6th..

Hope this helps...

hello

i have a 2002 ar tip with 90,000km on it and have had the same problem for over a year now!! alot of "thuding". the rear diff ws replaced and was good for about 4 weeks before the thuding came back. and yes its worse in the lower gears. also feels like something is moving under the car under heavy breaking.

the thud happens under heavy acceleration, when the gear box has to down shift quickly, its easy to avoid but very annoying.

the guy that works on my car has checked everything over and over again but cannt seem to find the problem?? would be nice to hear if anybody on the forms has had similar problems and found out what is causing it!!

bringing the car to a tranmission specialist next week, so hopefully he can pin point the problem

best

richardo

hi Alfredo

well i live in norway so for 6 months of the year i have winter tires on if thats what you mean? otherwise i have the same tires on all four wheels. i have heard that different tires on front and back can screw up the diff also?? plus the previous owner did alot of towing with the car so maybe this could be a cause?

when got the car it drove perfectly for 2 years but now its buging the hell out of me :-(

thing is i have replaced the rear diff with a new one and it didnt fix the problems!!!

Then it could be the gearbox.

When i bough t my allroad (second hand), you could not feel anything under normal driving... but after two hours on the highway.... i could star listening to all kinds of noise, and big bumps shacking the whole car. Finally it broke down. But all the transmission was damageg, and it suffered a lot. I have to replace my rear diff, but it is a special one, because my model is the LOW version, manual gearbox 6 speed, code ENX. I have had so many problems with my car... and today.. the car has had a broken suspension (front right)...and it is on the floor (literally) and i cant raise it !!!!

i feel your pain. over the past year i have changed front air bag, air compressor for the suspension, rear diff, areal for gps and several minor components............and living in norway/europe its a very expensive car to fix when things go wrong and i have been reading these forums for 3 years now.

anyway next week am off to a transmission shop to see if they can find out if it is the gearbox or not. i dont think it is as it changes gear and goes into reverse without a problem......
hoping its a bad axel or drive shaft support
