My 04 rear hatch will only lock if i put the key in the hatch door and manually lock it. pushing the remote or manually locking the doors from the drivers door does not lock it. i've read the owners manual and says it should lock it when i push the button or mannually from the drives door. the horn beeps and the lights flash but the rear hatch doesn't lock. any ideas? is it possible the remote locking unit in the door has come disconnected?

There are several positions that you can leave the rear latch at, or at least two. I had the same problem with my Allroad. Turn the latch with the key to a different position, take the key out and see if that fixes it.

Check the manual for the correct position of the rear latch.

I would lock the car, the alarm beeped, go to the back and the rear hatch opened by hand.

I'll try different key positions. Also if i lock the rear hatch manually so it will not open, i can unlock it with the remote. which makes me think the locking accuator is working.
