Default Rear seat super heater!

My rear seat overheated last week. The last rear passenger left it on and I guess the duvet I had on it was heavy enough to turn it on.

So, after a 3 hour trip I removed the duvet, which had insulated the smell and felt that the duvet was hot. I touched the seat and it was so hot it would have burned my hand. The leather changed texture and turned yellowish. My duvet, pillow and covers to each all had sourch marks about 10" in diameter (like I left a hot iron on them).

It will be interesting to see if I can get Audi to replace them (the duvet and pillow). They will of course fix the seats.

Default Not so much the seat but the pillow (esp foam type) will hold the heat

we go to about three or four dryer fires a year because they were trying to dry foam pillows. In your case the seat heater was just the heat sourse the pillow held the heat and started to burn, that caused the discoloring on your seat. Your lucky you didn't overcome by the fumes. That saids somethng for the ventlation of the car.

I guess I never realized there was a "passenger sensing" function to the seat heaters.

Default yup...

... once again, the Great and Powerful Manual knows all, tells all.

Hmmn - here's a question that the manual doesn't answer: how many folks DON'T have rear heated seats? (option lists aside, of course). I ran across only 2 cars in my entire search that didn't have 'em.

Default Hm, wonder if my A4 does that? Also, if the seats heaters are weight activated, doesn't that make

the A4 "Pizza" commercial kinda dumb?

I once brought my allroad in for service and mentioned that the right rear seat heater wasn't working. When I later picked the car up, the service manager told me the heater had been working properly and that the reason it didn't heat the seat was that my passenger did not buckle their seat belt. It seems that there is not only a passenger weight sensor but also a seat belt interconnect involved. I didn't initially believe it, but sure enough, the right rear seat heater will not work until the seat belt buckle is inserted. And, in true Audi style, this is NOT true of the left rear seat heater. The left one works without the seatbelt! German engineering at its finest.
