To remove the rear cupholders, just PULL them out...

...it will take a little pressure and there will be a snap as they pop out. You will see 3 little parts fly out of them when you've done this. One is a little plastic thingy with a yellow plastic cog on it. Another is a plastic drum and the last is a wound copper band. When you've cleaned everything out, you put them back together as follows. There's a fitted hole that holds the plastic cog. The cog itself should be on the bottom side of the cupholder and it has a gear pathway that you fit it into (just kind of twist the cupholder to leave enough room on that side of the cupholder housing to do this). Then insert the drum inside the rolled up copper band and place it in the middle of the back of the cupholder. The band should unroll along the bottom of the cupholder as it extends. It is tricky to reinsert it, but hold on to the tab at the end of the band and pull it out as you reinsert the cupholder into the housing. As you get it about 2 inches from being in, you will need to insert the tabbed end of the band into the little slot for it at the front base of the housing, that way its tension keeps it in place. It might take a couple tries to figure out how to manipulate this all while mainting a grip on the tab. Also, I did all of this with the seat pulled up so I had a more favorable working angle. I'd think the wrist angles for holding onto the tab would be difficult with the seat bottom still in place (to remove the seat bottom, just pull -- there are 4 pretty solid tabs holding it in place at the front of the seat).

You could take it to the dealer and have a tech show you, or if you look with a flashlight, there are two taps (one on each side). Depress and the sling just slides right out...no flying parts. Good luck.

Did you mean tabs ? If so are there 2 tabs per cup holder slide in the rear ? Or are there two tabs for the whole assembly including both cup holders ?
