it would have been quite easy if not for that last seized bolt.
you have to know the parts and how they fit to understand the difficulty
first two mounts can off super easy.
not the last one...!
the bolt had expanded inside the mushroom type washer that holds the spring in place.
I tried everything. it didnt even budge one pinch.
so i took my dremmel to it where the bolt enters the mushroom type wsher. 60 secs later out comes the compressor.
compressor looks good. no visible damage.
cleaned it up.
looks like I have to splice the power to bench test it before refurbishing
just waiting on bagpipingandy's kit. should be here soon.
For those asking how much they need to raise the vehicle:
I just removed the compressor from my allroad. It has been sitting/stored for a while, so the airbags are 100% deflated. I jacked the rear up and set each rear wheel on 3" of wood (pairs of 2x10s). I was able to get under the car comfortably and remove the compressor. Cleaning the car, as Kneale said (wise OLD man), is a good idea before you start this, as a lot of dirt falls.
Anyway, if your suspension stays up, I bet you can do this job in Level 4. If you have any concerns about it dropping, then a pair of 2x8 or 2x10 boards to keep the rear wheels 3" up off the ground gives plenty of room to keep you from getting touched, much less crushed, beneath a completely deflated car.
