Default Replacing lower control arms -how do you.....

Hi Guys, I 'm about ready to tackle replacing the lower front control arms (both). I've got the new arms, I've got the socket set out and fired up the Classic Rock Radio...

but I have been told that you need to tighten the nuts on the new arms when the vehicle is at curb weight. I don't have access to a lift, is there another way to do this?

Put on jackstands after loosening wheel bolts, use jack to jack up the suspension after you've installed the new stuff finger tight.

^^ This

Be sure to take some measurements as to the relation of where the wheel to fender is at "ride height" Simulate this same measurement when jacking up the suspension.

This will give you the correct "load" then you can tighten the bolts.

I just put second jack under the lower knuckle and lower the car until that wheel's hub reaches the same height as the other wheels planted on the ground. This will effectively ensure that this corner looks to the car as if it has a wheel on and is on the ground. Next up I get inside the car and put it on L2 which is my riding height. Once the suspension settles on L2, I remeasure to make sure the hub is still at the proper height and tighten the bolts.

what I've done is put the car on lvl 2, put it on the ground, and then tighten everything up.
there is just enough room to get to the bolts.
that way, you wont have to worry about the bushings self-destructing from being tightened in the wrong position.
