Default Is the rubber Y boot on the intake a vacuum source?

2004 2.7

So I've had the front of my engine (and now the top) a few times over the years.

That large rubber boot in the front center of the intake that Y's to each inter cooler is split.

I've been ignoring it, but I just found engine codes that make me wonder if it's related.

17965 - Charge Pressure Control
P1557 - 35-00 - Positive Deviation
17547 - Fuel Trim: Bank 2 (Add)
P1139 - 35-00 - System too Rich
17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add)
P1137 - 35-00 - System too Rich

My guess is that it's unrelated, but figured I'd ask. Since this is on the input side of things, couldn't this - in theory - just be removed entirely and not be a vacuum leak? Obviously it's used to force air in from the turbos ...

are you talking the Throttle body boot http://www.ebay.com/itm/AIR-INTAKE-D...21c021&vxp=mtr (If so, you could buy an APR BIPIPE which eliminates this rubber boot all together..)

Or upgrade to a silicone one..
That is if this is what you are talking about...

See, this is why you get boost leak codes https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng19.shtml

PS: Here is the APR BIPIPE( Plus installation) :

Yeah, that's her.

So do you think those codes are related to this boot? I'll order one. I sure ain't paying $350 for a replacement pipe for this car. I just don't love her like I used to.

Yes, sir, you may also want to change the metal clips as these are sometimes the culprit to why the rubber boot splits like that..

Also, don't forget to perform a TBA :

That is, if you have a Vag Com ... If you don't, I think it may adapt once you put the key in the on/acc position without starting the car and let it do its own thing for about 30-90 seconds.

I discovered that my AR has an aluminum "boot". It still has the two separate pipes from the intercoolers.

It's the first time my indy mechanic saw one, and thought it was a feature of the American models, since mine is a US car.

Who else has an aluminum throttle body boot?

2005's got the upgraded style.
Kinda like the RS4.

Also, the APR Bi-Pipe is difficult to fit on the allroad.
Some trimming of stuff is required and longer hoses are needed to connect the bi-pipe to the intercoolers.

I'd suggest 034 TBB.

Everyone who said anything in this status is right though.

His car should already have the 'upgraded' metal clamps. Only the earlier 2.7s had the 'bad' clamps.

Tho the metalboot is nice, the new style rubber ones are just fine.

Wish you were closer...I have a new OE rubber boot for ya' just lying around.
