Like the idea of satellite radio, have it at home and really enjoy it. Only concern for the car is which device to buy and where to mount it. Any advice would be appreciated.

all the current car units use an FM modulator to put the signal into your car stereo. So there should be some degradation of the signal. Will it be audible? Hard to tell. Apparently there's also a system where you use the cassette adapter but that's a kludge. Crutchfield has quite a few units and info available.
My fearless prediction is, the two competing systems will merge sooner rather than later, simply because of the economics. And I am not in favor of being an early adopter in general because they are the guinea pigs who finish the R&D.

the perfect headunit. XM/AM/FM/CD/MP3 in dash player. I'm a real tech nut, and after reviewing all the MP3 car players out there, the JVC-SH99 was the best. I had it in my VW GTI and loved it. I'm weary of trading out the Audi allroad radio because that space is so dang big... it would look strange.
Anyhow, regarding XM, I'd only want an in dash player... no external stuff. Same reason I don't like to carry my 6GB MP3 jukebok in the car... just not a clean install. If the Audi stereos had input jacks, maybe I'd do it, but FM modulators and cassette adapters are crap.

I also hate having the external pieces mounted all over the car but I do enjoy music with no commercial interruptions. If I were to mount the unit I would consider putting it in the space under the armrest. Let me know if you have any thoughts on where you would mount the device.

It's a catch22. You hide it, you can't access it to change stations. You have it in a convenient place, it's out there looking nasty. I'm just gonna wait for the integrated head unit/MP3 player.
