I have heard this "airplane" noise that I'm pretty sure is my

secondary air injection pump. I own a VAG-Com, but I've never seen a code yet for the S.A.I. pump. Could this go bad and NOT throw a code by chance?

it being noisy won't throw a code.

It means the bearings are going bad but it's still pumping air so the O2 sensors all read normally. You won't get a code until it fails completely, i.e. stops pumping air when asked.
