Default Signs of a bad motor ( snub) mount???

'01 ar 6spd. engine and shifter seems clunky when on/off the gas in 5-6th gear. Shifts and runs perfect, no purple fluid around mounts in rear, is this the sign of a failing snub mount?

TIA

The snub can usually be inspected during an oil change. But if it's your original one, with ~8 years on it, I'd suggest changing it the next opportunity you have.

Default Finally replaced the snub mount..no change??

Mount didn't look too bad and there may be a slight improvement in shifting 1-4 gears but when I'm in 4-6 cruising along and let my foot off the gas it sounds like the engine is falling back down with a clunk then giving it the gas it goes up and clunks. Much worse on the highway in 6th gear? Tranny mounts? Sounds like it's coming from under my feet? Mounts look o.k.?

TIA

Trans mounts will often *look fine - I can almost 100% assure you they are shot. Axis sells some great 034 solid mounts that will firm it up without causing any vibrations.

If you're on the west coast Mike at Pure MS can hook you up with them too.

Default Thanks, that' what I was looking at doing next..just not sure how

big of a job it is. It looks like you would have to suspend the engine or support it from the bottom while changing the mounts?

Trans mounts are easy. Just use a floor jack to prop up the tail end of the trans. A little tight getting to some of the bolts but it's not too bad.

Do you have a good shop manual? Bentley manual is the best. WELL WORTH the $80 or so to get one.
