Snow tire? - Those of you who are getting snows, are you keeping oem tires

Purchased new 16" Michelin Artic Alpin snows on ATP alloys. Sold OEM tires on this board.
In Spring, purchased new 17" summer tires (Pirelli P6000) to mount on OEM wheels. At least this worked out well for me. Total cost, after selling the OEM tires (which only had 500 miles on them), was around $800. Seasonal changeovers are now pretty easy and cheap. The -1 configuration seemed to work out very well in last winter's heavy snow here in the upper midwest, and the P6000s are a proven summer tire with very good performance on both wet and dry roads for the price. If doing this today, I'd spend a bit more and probably go with S0-3s, I've had good luck with SO-2 pole positions on another car.

I plan to just wait and see what's available when I'm ready to buy - by then the selection should be better. The bigger question is which TIRE I'll buy - in the summer I'll want to maintain the current load capacity of approximately 1600 lbs. that you get from the 225/17's. I occasionally tow a boat so this is a consideration too. 255/18's would do the job nicely but from what I understand I don't think they'll fit.

I think the 6000s are good, but isn't that a bit on the expensive side for an allroad? I mean it is an awesome car, but do you really take the allroad through stuff that needs that kind of tire?
Just curious.

I tow a 17 1/2 fishing rig with a 115 HP outboard motor - total weight (unloaded) is about 2200 lbs. Maximum weight (loaded) is about 2500 lbs., plus passengers and whatever other gear is in the car, so load capacity of any replacement tire is very much a consideration.
With respect to towing abilities I find the allroad to be very similar to any of the car-based SUV's such as the MDX, the RX 300, etc.
