Hey guys I have experienced the tip-lag in the past & at the time it "seemed" like a long time. However in emergency situations (eg the seconds before impact) our minds "expand" time (call it what you want) & what's really only half a second or at worse one second ends up seeming like an damm long time.
If you stop & think what one or two seconds really feels like then you may find this "tip-lag" is nowhere near this time frame.
What I have "learned" over the past 2 months is the AR needs to be "driven". It has a tendancy to lull you into a very sedate mode of driving (especially in "D"). Yet in manual mode the AR really comes to life but the gearing is vastly different to any other "real manual" I've ever driven before. This where I would use 3rd in a "real manual" in the AR I should be in 4th to get the right response from car. In this mode of operation there is practically no noticable lag at all.
Anyway that's my $2.00!

I'm not sure that it really improves in tip mode. It seems to be more of a "off of the brake pedal, accelerator delay". It will respond immediately if you have been off the brake for a few seconds.
And I feel Audi should design a proper auto to be used in auto...for the wives out there. Like I said before, if this were mine it would be a stick like my S4. But...it isn't mine...and I know better next time.
I would really like to see Audi step up on this one. Maybe they have improved it on the 2003...?
For now I'm glad I chose purchase on the S4 and lease on the allroad. If they don't fix it, it will be someone else's problem and I'll probably be getting a Touareg (I'll make sure the auto works on it!). Here's to hoping VWofA brings the V10 TDI to the US!

Once when my car was 1 day old, I saw this problem first hand and it scared the **** out of me. However, once the car and I became used to each other, this was no longer a problem.
