as you have probably all heard those of us that have opted to go for the stasis rear brake kits have a problem noteably a spare tire problem.
our folding spare tire is a 16" rim which will not fit over the stasis front set up - or even the stasis rears. I had a feeling that the spare might fit with a spacer though so thought I'd try it today.
try #1) first tried to fit the spare by itself, just for fun one more time. not a chance - didnt fit.
try #2) tried with one 15mm spacer. still no dice. spare didnt fit.
try #3) tried with two 15mm spacers for the total of 30mm. it fit, well, not really. I thought it did until I took a closer look:

although the rim sat flat on the spacers, the caliper was touching the rim. I couldn't even fit a piece of paper between the two.
well, just for fun I proceeded to try
try #4) this time I went with three 15mm spacers creating a total of 45mm between the hub and the wheel.
<img src="http://andrewduncan.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/normal_DSC00552_%28Large%29.JPG">
see 3 - count 'em 3 spacers.
this time we had some decent clearance with the rim:

the picture doesn't show it really well but there was plenty of clearance between the caliper and the wheel. but now I am starting to worry about rubbing with the fender. No sure about finding a 45mm bolt on spacer anyway.
so, after all that I needed to try for myself to see if a full size spare would be an option:
<img src="http://andrewduncan.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/normal_DSC00554_%28Large%29.JPG">
it isnt.
I guess unless I can find a bolt up 45mm spacer <groan> I need to invest in more fix a flat.
I am open to other ideas if anyone has any.

installed wheels. When I changed to the T1-R I kept the best looking T1-S for exactly that purpose.
It's more of a hassle but I rather have AAA come and pick up the tire and wheel and have it fixed.
It is a calculated risk, should I get stranded in the middle of the night then I will walk away from the car anyway to take cover behind the guard rail. Too risky changing a tire in the night, too many Dare Devils on the road.

you can put the spare on the rear and put the tire that was on the rear up front over the stoptechs.
of course if you upgraded the rears, you might be in this boat too.

smaller stuff goes below and the tire is sitting upright next to the XBass Subwoofer.
I had this configuration with 3 other adults + luggage for several trips, a bit of creativity goes a long way. If I had a roof rack mount then it would be mounted up there - Rally style ;-)
