Default Steering wheel question- Can my '02 wheel with heat and tip controls be

put in an '05 and have all functions still work? Aside from the obvious airbag issues. The 2 big things holding me back from moving to an '05 are the heat and tip.

Default My dealer said no!

When the time came to turn in my leased 02 and get a new 05, which I did, I asked that question. Since neither feature was offered in 05, the wheel wouldn't work.
Both ar's have been the wife's and while she misses the heated wheel the tip controls were never an issue for her. I on the other hand, miss both features and wish Audi of America had never screwed with it. Good luck.

Re: Heated wheel
You would need:
1) 2002 wheel $400+ with heat
2) New climate control unit $700+
3) misc wiring, a module (or 2) etc
4) not sure about the SC ring...probably not.

Re: Adding tip....but not heat (not as bad)
You would need:
1) 2002 wheel with tip ($400 part..I think)
2) upgraded steering wheel control module ($200)
I know this for a fact because I installed these myself in a 2005 allroad two months ago. The install took about 60 minutes. Very easy. YOu don't need to wire anything to the tip shifter....just plug and play....because you are dealing with a 2002 and 2005. If you have a 2001 ar and you want this stuff....that a diff story (of course, I think the 2001 ar had tip and heat already.)
3) the Self cancelling ring shouldn't be needed.

These wheels are very hard to find used....so if you search ebay (germany)....you might get lucky. Just make sure you get a wheel from a C5 ..and not a B6...as the wiring in a B6 would need to be swapped out.

I'm in the process of installing a functioning 4 spoke tip/MF wheel with walnut/leather combo (just some stuff that I brought back from my last trip to Germany). It is from a B6 (rare option)....and I had a black version from a C5...so I swapped the buttons and interior wiring around. I still have the black wheel (mint condition) but it will need the tip buttons and few odd's and ends.

Hope this helps!

Default Thanks. Is there anything electronic on an Audi you haven't done? I'd keep my '02

wheel and swap with the '05 wheel if I did it.
