Default Strange vibration/jolt when accelerating.

Car: 02´ Allroad MT driven 40.000 miles.

Symptoms:
When accelerating a small vibration is felt which increases with acceleration and in 4-6th gear the vibration is much less but there is humming only when keeping steady speed, but vibration is felt.

Then the weird thing is when turned at slow speed(below 20mph) the vibration will get a lot worse and it acts similar to an Jeep that is locked in drives, almost jumps around. This also happens if you reverse but only when you let go of the accelerator.

What has been done:
After looking under the car I found both cv boots torn and I found a lot post relating vibration to the inner cv joint so I put in new axels at front. Did also put in new gear oil(Audi). But now the problem still exists and I’m almost out of ideas.

Could it be the Torsen diff locking up? Tested having two wheels on ice and it worked I.e. the car moved and also when having front or rear on Ice.

Or could it be the center driveshaft? The car is 2002 but only driven 40.500 miles has been standing still a lot.
Or?

Any info appreciated as I’m running out of ideas and $$ for fixing.

If the car has sat for a long period you could have flat spots on the tires (they will not wear properly). Additionally I would be looking for dry rot.

Definitely a possibility with the low mileage on it. The only way I have found to make mine ride smooth is a Hunter Road Force balance. That system should find a bad tire if there is one.

Thank you for the good idea.
Flat spots was something I thought of but the vibration is not like that sometimes the vibration is small and sometimes more and goes away if you depress the clutch or drive straight.

A bit hard to describe the vibration though.

How can I check the Torsen for faults?

Ideas that I would like to rule out:
Front diff
Center drive shaft
Motor mounts
Rear drive shafts.

Info how to rule some out without exchanging many parts very much appreciated.

"militarysourcing" what do you mean by dry rot?

Any Idea how to check the torsen for faults?

The vibration is much worse if you put the car in reverse and when it slows down backwards with the clutch disengaged.

Default Did you solve the problem?

I'm experiencing the same issues with my Allroad. I have the 6 speed manual. My shifter lever wobbles around at higher RPMs and under hard acceleration. And my tires are brand new so that rules out flat spots. Please share with me what, if anything, you have found.

"Dry Rot" is when the tires have sat in storage (or on the car) for a long period of time, the rubber has hardened and begun to crack. A dry rotted tire can start to flake and spall rubber as it heats up (while driving).

No not fixed jet.

Next thing will be taking off the center drive shaft and check for defects in bearing and joints.

Scvines If you have excessive play in the gear lever then the transmission mounts could be gone.

Tires are definitely not the thing with my car as the vibration goes away with speed and the tires are new.

May or may not be related but have you checked your engine or transmission mounts?

It seems that the pininon has not been adjusted correctly.

Any one happen to know a 01E code FTJ for sale?

I have been offered one code EHS could that one fit?
