Rumblefish's proposal made me wonder if there would really be an effect on resale value. I had guessed that the majority of folk just bought whichever wheels were available on the lot, when buying new.

lack of attraction to the double-spokers. For the first two years, I never saw the stock wheels on a dealer's lot. Now, most cars on lots have stock wheels.

...the online price guides that are used to provide data for resale value (kbb.com, for instance), take optional equipment into account. If you were selling your car and wanted a guestimate for resale vaulue and you had the 3d's on your car... wouldn't you check the 'premium wheels' box? Do an experiment and see what the difference would be on two identical allroads, but with different wheel options.
Okay - so maybe you're lazy. let me do the experiment for you. Here's a similarly equipped 2001 AR from a dealership... the only difference being <a href="http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.urr?kbb.MO;223465;MO189&63105;wag&40;Audi;20 01%20allroad&3;AU;AR&">5-spokers</a> and

If you don't feel like clicking the links, here's the result: 36,435 vs 37,100... a whopping 665 difference.
Granted, It's not a lot when purchasing an entire car, but it's a pretty substantial and significant difference if you were just comparing the relative value of the 3d's to the stockers.
Personally, I LIKE the stock 5-spokers BETTER than the 3d's so - to me - there is slightly more value to them. This washes out with the difference in cost between the two items... Of course, if I was buying a car with 3d's from a dealership that had another AR with the stockers on, I would ask for an even swap out. The dealer might be agreeable to this, as he would be getting a 'premium' item for nuthin.
Similarly, I guess if anyone liked the 3d's better than the 5-spokers, I guess they could ask said hypothetical dealer for a similar swap, but I bet this would cost the customer this time..
And the 3d-bate rages on...

No 3d's
