I'm rebuilding my Allroad 01E 6 speed transmission and I am trying to find out what (if any) gears/parts from an S4 01E trans, I can use. Specifically, I need to replace 4th and 5th gear and their associated shift collars. I have access to an S4 trans that I can rob parts from, which would be a lot cheaper then buying new gears from Audi.

Question come to mind why would you want to replace gears? Do you know for a fact that they are damaged? Usually it is 1-2 shift collar and synchros that are the items that need replacement in our cars.
However, since you already have S4 tranny, just use it in place of allroad. You will enjoy longer gears and better fuel economy in 6th.
You will have to replace rear differential with 4.11:1 ratio one though from A6.
If you don't want to use S4 tranny, I will buy it from you or maybe we can come to some trade agreement, my 6speed is ok except for 3rd synchro that shows signs of age and is the driving force behind me looking to rebuild mine or do swap to S4 drivetrain.

THanks for the reply.
I have already torn my Allroad trans apart so I can see which gears/collars are fubar'd--4th and 5th gear and their associated shift collars. I was hoping the S4 gears would work even if I had to swap output shafts. But now I'm getting waaaaaaaaayyyyy beyond my knoweldge level. I'm just stoked the teardown went so well. So far I'm having a great time working on my trans. Of course, I haven't spent a dime on it yet.
I hate to bother him, but I have been told that scotty@advanced is the guy to ask, so I think I'll send him an email.
