Default M715 variant? I see D60 rear, 9x16NDT's? Wait, LR looking lights...maybe that's a Salisbury rear...

So, what is that thing? The lights and tailgate look very Rover-ish, or rather, the other side of the NATO.

BTW, here's a shot of *my* OD junk.

Cheers

Default Car - In the garage???

My perfect solution is to always have one of my trucks under overhaul. There is never any room in the garage for the car unless it is getting a little TLC.

It drives my wife mental.

Default I drive a big brick, a small brick and a very unaerodynamic german sled....

(Well with the bikes etc. anyway) Aerodynanics does not feature highly in my life.

Default I always did like the deuce...

but the wife has drawn the line. My ultimate machine would be an Alvis Stalwart but my oh so logical partner has to question why we would need a 10 tonne amphibious truck that gets 4mpg in the desert. Hah - just wait until it floods deary!

You are doing well with your detective work ... its a Land Rover 101 1 tonne GS. 3.5L V8, salisburies, 75:1 low box, Nokken PTO winch, manual steering and 9X16's.

The HOA hate me but after a little tooing and froeing they accepted that is was OK. I suspect that someone on the committee has a Hummer (H1 or even the H2's really break the rules too) and didn't want me to raise the threatened stink about everyone else's vehicles.

I've had her in overhaul for a while and am just getting through the carburation set up for a new engine. I'm running her stripped down as it makes it easy to nip in and out of the garage.

This is real flies in your teeth driving an a lot of fun in the sun.

Here's a piccie of her all dressed to impress.

For some Audi content. I have no complaints about the allroad. In comparison it is miserly with fuel, reliable to a tee, eminently practical and never leaks oil.

Cheers

Default I'd say that the 10T truck would put you in a different kind of...

..."idiot motorist law," regardless of the flood stage (or none at all, for that matter!). Ok ok ok those are cool. A friend with a 416 Mog is currently babysitting a Volvo C303, and riding around in that COE truck is pretty darn cool. Well, that's on pavement - cab over engine gets fairly puckering on downhill offroad.

Anyway, that LR looks like a fun little runner. I have a HUGE soft spot for that size of vehicle. Indeed, apropos of talk of frivolous offroad vehicles, my third vehicle is a buggy I built on 2.5T deuce axles, and 53" tires. I'll go home tonight to finally mount a fuel cell into it (rather than stock-ish tanks)...

By the way, what bellhousing pattern do you have? Why not try to throw an FI Ford or Buick mill into there? Not very HOA friendly, but????

Audi content - the weirdest thing in the world is switching between driving the deuce (with armstrong steering and the swapped-in 5 ton tranny, with a one-foot throw between gears), and the allroad. The constant? Massive turbo whistle.

Best,
Bob

Default I don't look up at my rearview close to the house (no traffic), so what I do is...

after I've backed the car out, when I grab the bike I also put a garbage can smack in the middle of that side of the garage. Then, when I come back, no matter what, I can't pull in the garage until I've gotten out & moved the trash.

Default The engine is not too much of a concern...

I've just rebuilt it with higher compression pistons and a new cam etc. - hence the carb issues.

When the fueling is right she'll cruise at 75 mph and touch 85 mph but you wouldn't want to stay there as with those bar grips everything is shaking and with 557 diffs everything is spinning pretty fast. The famous allroad shake has nothing on unbalanced bar grips.

The LR V8 is pretty light and suits the balance of the vehicle nicely. I'm told by those who have tried that putting in a heavier engine really hoses the handling, especially off road as you pointed out, as it becomes really nose heavy. I don't fancy trying nose wheelies just yet.

I agree about switching between vehicles. The 101 has about a 1 foot throw on the gear lever too. It also powers both axles all the time so, with the heavy burmann nut steering box, you learn to give a healthy dose of right foot to help you corner.

I also keep reading posts about people hearing turbos and compressors etc in the allroad. I think I am doing well to hear the radio after being in the truck.

The 101 is really fun and compliments the allroad nicely. Both are a scream to drive but for very different reasons.

Oh yeah, I love the look of your rock buggy but once again I think that falls on the wrong side of the line with the wife.

Cheers
Gregor

Default Thule 1200 with Bike

Thule Evolution 1200. Bikes go on each side and it does well.

I had 3 bikes on my Subaru plus the Thule Box over the weekend. Talk about a load for the 4 banger subie, she got a good workout headed over the hills to Asheville, NC.
