We had the roof box mounted on side near driver and 2 trays on pssngr
wanted to be able toss the snowboards in quickly without reaching to the center of the roof (not fun after a long cold day snowboarding, not to mention openening/seating the clamshell roof box
since we didn't use the bikes that much in the winter (northeast)
our last car has also a higher roof (pathfinder)
