Default Damn, those are some serious tires...

I like the Hayes... I've heard so many horror stories about hydraulic disc brakes, but I've been riding trouble free for over 6 months.

Default Griffinpup, how do you like your Raven?

I've always liked the look of the Raven frame... but I'm still not so sure on the lefty. You don't lose too much weight and you don't get all the travel available either.

The Raven frame is kinda like the SAABs... you either love the look or hate it... not much in between.

Where do you live again? How's the MTB action around there?

Default I use the uprights for nearby trails. For long trips I put on the fork mounts.

Fork mounts are more stable and aerodynamic. Plus I use the Yakima B-strings to protect from bugs.

Default OT: Its a plastic bike... what can I say... but boy does it look cool... =)

I like riding carbon... It's stiffer then *^$#@#$%! but creeks like plastic... I love the lefty... very rigid and I love the lock off...( I have the 2000 model thank god, it has the manual lock out not the electronic crap like years after) I'm really fortunate to grap some magic motorcycle cranks for it too! Lightest ones out there man...
I live in madison wisconsin. trails around here are surprisingly good... some tech, some speedy line trails too. there's even a MTB park in the middle of town!

BTW... I should get my "egg beaters" next week... can't wait to test them out... (for those out there that don't know what they are, they are 4 sided clipped pedals that look like egg beaters...)

Default Eggbeaters... cool!!!

I go riding with some of the folks from the local shop, so they get all the cool toys first. Eggbeaters being one of them. It's such a simple idea, it's amazing no one's thought of them first.

I want to maybe get the eggbeaters too, but I still get lots of crap about my bike's pedals. Since the SC Bullit is a "freeride" bike, people comment about my SPD clipless pedals, saying how I should have some platforms. I hold onto my SPDs because of one reason... I started out MTBing with an $800 Schwinn S Carbon bike in '99. Over $3,000 later, I have since upgraded EVERY SINGLE part of that bike, including frame/fork so that all that's left from that $800 Schwinn are the pedals. It's like buying a Hyundai wagon and upgrading piece by piece till you have the allroad... not a smart idea, should've bought the "bad ***" bike from the get go, but it was a fun process.

Default omg.... you should go time... I used to go SPD but...

always caught mud, snow, ice, etc. and needed constant tweaking of tension... you would love carbon time attacks man... same priciple of the egg beaters, but only two sides...It's funny that you should mention going back to "old school" pedals... I've always clipped, even when I was younger... Just made me feel more apart of the bike... but I'm now considering putting pedals on my single speed. there's a tech course around here that makes it hard to grab a line after you clip out and loose your rythem...

BTW... I love my Ti hardtail I have... If you ever want to go with another type of bike, I definitely recommend going Titanium... My next project is to build a Moots Mootaineer superlight softtail from scratch... XTR baby!!!

Here are pix of my car with 58" Yakima round bars, Doublecross towers with core locks, and fork mounts holding our Klein Attitude bikes.

Default Re: Thule or Yakima?

I use the yakima 48" towers with the fairing and upright mounts. I have been very happy with the ease of use and quality of the rack. On long trips I wrap most of the bike in saran wrap to protect from bugs.

These are the best pics I have - sorry there are no close-ups. Since these were taken, I moved the rack back a few inches so the fairing doesn't protrude over the sunroof. The towers aren't between the indents anymore, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
