Default Tire Chain needed ?

I am planning to go to Tahoe (San Francisco Bay Area) very first time with my allroad this coming Friday and it is expected to be raining/snowing. Do I need tire chain ? If so, where could I purchase one that fits the allroad ?

thanks a lot.

Default If the weather's bad enough that you need chains on your allroad...

...then the highways will be so clogged up with other, stuck, cars and SUVs that you won't be able to get there anyway. If your tires are in reasonable shape, you should be OK. Better yet, with real snow tires, you'll be miles ahead of everyone else. HPH

Default Agreed.......

even with stock tires I was running circles around folks here in Kansas City a couple weeks ago when we had a ten inch snowfall. I was looking for places to try and get stuck on the road or in parking lots. You'll be fine. If its that bad that you need chains on an allroad, personally, I'd stay home!

Default Chain's are required in many area's (Mtn passes) when

the weather gets nasty. Happens in Oregon all the time. Called a "Conditional Road Closure" and if you don't have chains on - you ain't going anywhere... I carry them at all times for the stock allroad tire size that I run.(Winter M2's) Manual says to fit them on the rear only...you just never know.

Default By law you are to have chains, But I have never been ask, and when all wheel drives need chains

the road is closed. That is if you have all weather tire with a M&S on the side wall. If not you will need them. But even then most of the time they will wave you through be cause they (CalTrans) See the allroads and assumes you have the right tires. Get in an accident and the CHP will check and if you have the wrong tire your toast. Can you Sign Here.
