Default Tire wear question

I've got about 18,000 miles on my 2004 allroad 2.7 tip, and I've GOT to replace my two front tires - there is NO tread. Is this normal wear? It's my first allroad after 2 A6's (which were low mileage cars and gone by the time I had 18K miles). The allroad is used almost exclusively for suburban driving. Have others had a similar experience? Could it be caused by another problem?
thanks.

It's a heavy car, rotating tires regularly helps even out tire wear..

Default I usually get about 15-20K from a set

that 15-20K usually includes mostly suburban driving, some aggressive mountain driving, and a couple of track days.

It is a heavy car and will wear the tires quickly. keep the alignement up, and keep roatating them for the longest wear possible.

At least it isnt as bad as my friends GT3, he had to replace his rears after only 8K. ouch.

then again, I seem to only get 3-5K out of my motorcycle tires...

Default OEM tires suck and don't last much more than that.

As the others have said, regular rotations and allignment checks are key to this car. Also, proper tire inflation is extrememly important due to the heaviness of this car. Most have found that pressures in the 38-42 range seems to work best, depending on the tire.

Default I've been happy with the Dunlop SP9000 OEMs (245/45-18)

Low noise, good wear, and fairly sticky in the corners.

Default I put on Yoko H4S after going through Pirelli & Falken 512s in 17K mi/set.

They're mounted on stock 17" wheels. The Yokohama Avid H4S, an H-rated tire, is rated for 60K miles. Handling isn't quite as crisp as the 512s, bit is better than the Pirelli allroad tires. Noise, traction, and comfort is about the same at the Ziex 512 -- which is very good. We'll see how they wear.

Default Thanks for the responses.....

If the wear is caused by an alignment problem, should I make an issue of it and try to get them covered under warranty? Or am I dreaming?

Also, I had the car in for a 15K service at a different dealership 2 months ago - shouldn't they have noticed the wear? I'm not saying that I shouldn't have noticed, but these tires were BARE - wouldn't it be evident to the dealer doing the last service?

Default Yoko H4S

Just replaced Yoko with Falkens - got 40,000 with the Yoko on a 60,000 tire.
