The fact that I have no reverse, 1st, or 2nd gives me a strong suspicion that I lost my converter. Fine one hour and the next I can barely move the car. Very odd, but I'm not putting more money into this one.
If there are enough out here who can make me justify parting out, I will do that, but it's not going to sell in its current condition as a whole for what I want.
So, that said, there are new parts galore on this beauty, incl. gen II air springs up front with new compressor. Brand new driver side axle, installed last week, the car has 136k on it, Tiptronic, with recent timing, water pump, valve cover gaskets, cam plugs. rebuilt ps pump with brand new rack 4 months ago. slotted rotors, all calipers are 100%
The car is solid...any takers?

Sorry to hear, but before you jump to conclusions you might need to do a little more diagnostics. You say you lost R, 1st, and 2nd? 3,4, and 5 work?
Sounds like you could have a much simpler solenoid issue. Check this thread:https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2797752
Could be N93 or N88 bad. Other possibility could be G-clutch which would mean rebuild just like bad TC.
Hope it is something easy to fix and not life ending.

Perhaps a TCU tune is what the car is really asking for... 8-)
Its only maybe 2 grand to install an upgraded TC...if its worth it to you, and that is the problem.

so I am closer to "inheriting" my bro-in-laws 92 golf. he just upgraded to an 02 or 03 and is getting rid of. At 220k the car has been rally x'ed and auto x'ed by both of us and is still a very strong runner. the shell is about 60-70% (thank you o salt of maine) but is still reliable nontheless.
shamed to say I need a second (back-up) vehicle for when my AR is down, like it is now. So this car, which I love, is soon to be mine and cant wait..
