A friend is unhappy with his Touareg (20 days in shop in 9 months) and is thinking of trading it in for an allroad. All I can tell him is that I have had no serious problems and hardly any problems at all in the 19 months I have owned mine. I think he would like a 6spd but tip is OK too. This is the question: I have seen ads where they say $5000 off msrp. What is a realistic price (Colorado area) to buy a 2004 or 2005 for? he would just want premium and maybe cold. I think he should be able to find one for 41K-ish and then negotiate the trade-in. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I don't think the rebates are in effect anymore, which is why I bought a used 2004 allroad. I don't think they're doing the $5k discount anymore, and supplies of new '04's should be pretty much drying up. I think he should see if he can get a buyback from VW, then go negotiate his best deal on an '05, otherwise he'll get killed on the trade in on his Toureg. What kind of problems was he having?

Mainly all the recalls, rattles, electronic problems (park sensor, remote control, airbags), not fixing the problems properly, some weird engine problems. The main thing is that nothing is fixed in a timely manner.

Why walk away from 10 grand or more in trade in loss. He should also change servicing dealers... as others have found this can make a BIG difference.
