Default trade 01 auto for 03 6-speed?

I have a chance to essentially swap my 01 auto (14k miles) for a slightly used 03 6-speed.

My Atlas Gray 01 is on 39 month lease, and because of my trade-in the payments are $435. That lease expires in September of 04.

I have a chance to trade on a Cobalt Blue 03 with about 3000 miles on it. The extra packages are similar to my current car, and are all that I need. We're still talking about price, but my monthly would go up to ~$500 and the lease would now run out to April of 2006, an extra 20 months.

The extra few dollars I can easily justify as a sport tax for the 6-speed. I'm a little concerned about the length of time with this car--though I guess I'm proving how easy it is to trade out of a lease. At the same time, the allroad meets my needs, so the only reason to get something else would be for the fun of it.

Other issues are people's long-term satisfaction with the 6-speed, any problems with the 03 that I might not know about, or any 01 features I'm giving up that I'll miss (and, as petty as it is, the heated steering wheel is an issue). Is there anything materially better about the 03?

The other thing I'm wondering about it if this trade may increase my equity for the next trade. I've got about a $2300 difference in my favor between my current lease pay-off and the trade-in amount. Is there any way to figure out whether this trade will raise or lower the chance of having this equity available for the next trade or lease?

Thanks.

But would it be missed more than the new indash 6-disc changer and 6-spd tranny would be enjoyed? =)

Default Definitely would sacrifice heated steering wheel for TIGHT steering

I think you will much prefer the servtronic steering in the '02's and '03's over the '01. I have the '01 too, and wish it was more like the newer models, without having to remove the module... Steering wheel is nice, but it lasts less than 5 minutes... the steering on the other hand... there's no question, in my mind which I'd opt for.

Good luck and cheers!

Default That's my plan, but I'm gonna wait . .

until my 39-mo lease expires on my '01 tip; then I'll go for an '04 6 spd. Enjoy. I'm not too far behind.

Default Hmm I put my 628 in stoneys 4.2 and he felt a diff, not huge but a diff.

Maybe the diff is more at higher speeds then sitting in a parking spot?
