Default Trailer Wiring and Suspension Question

I'll be picking up my new-to-me 2002 AR [2.7/tip] on Saturday. I've ordered at hitch for it, and am in the process of figuring out the wiring. I had planned on making my own harness with a 13-pin plug, but am having trouble understanding the interaction with the suspension and what pin holds the suspension control module at L2. I found (on allroadfaqs.com) that only 2001 models had full manual mode on the suspension, which means I can't rely on the suspension staying on L2 after I set it there. So I'm having to sort out this wiring mess, because no one sells the harness for less than my left leg and forearm.

Doing research, I read in a SSP about a "contact switch" in the trailer wiring, which somehow has something to do with the rear fog light switch...? [see attachment] And I can't figure out if every AR has the 13-pin under the rear bumper somewhere, or only those with the factory tow package.

There was no "factory tow package" as I understand it, but every AR from 2002 on has the wiring and a 13-pin receptacle under the bumper. You can get a 13-pin plug (see the "who wants a trailer hitch" thread) from the UK supplier and then use it to wire down to a 4-pin system. That's what I did for my Bosal hitch.

Yeah, that 13-pin plug is what I've ordered, and will be using a converter to make my own harness, but that doesn't help me figure out the F216 switch issue to hold the suspension at L2.

I think that you might be overthinking this. Since your car is an 02 it should have the towing harness with Euro 13 pin connector already installed. This already takes care of any car-trailer interaction, and it does not force the car to stay in Level 2. You just need to buy or make a dongle for whatever wiring your trailer has. You can remove the "skid plate" on the rear bumper, and look up in there and see the plug.

If you put the suspension in Level 2, then only way it will leave that position is if you go over 90 mph where it drops to Level 1, or you push the buttons to change it again.
