Default my understanding

was that drive by wire was created to prevent lag on turbo engines. It manages fuel flow (actually increases the flow) before the turbos kick-in so that you don't feel turbo lag. They did not create DBW so as to generate a safe take-off.

The issue has to do with the programming of the DBW system not the concept itself. Conceptually it is a good idea if they just let it work the way it is supposed too.
