Update on heated wheel and seat issue
For the backstory... was driving to work a couple weeks ago when I felt what I though was a shock coming through the steering wheel. 2 min later a whisp of smoke comes up from the top of the steering wheel. The shock was a hotspot that started burning through the leather.
I've also been getting a hotspot in the lower part of the seatback. It wasn't too bad until recently when it would be really hot to the touch on level 2.
Based on a previous thread, someone here suggested I call AoA and see what they can do.
I called the 800 number listed on their site, explained my problem and they put me in touch with the Consumer Safety group. The rep there asked me to email him pictures of the damage and they'd look it over.
After sending the photos, they told me to make an appointment at my dealer so that a tech could take a look, inspect and verify the issue. The dealer talked to AoA, told them what they found and sent photos as well.
Just got a call today from the rep at AoA that they've instructed the dealer to order new parts (seat heater element, cover and steering wheel) and will contact me to make an appointment for the repairs.
For the record, since I purchased the car used, from a non-Audi dealer and its far out of warranty I wasn't really expecting anything. However, they were a pleasure to deal with, made calls back in a timely manner with no hassle or run around.
For views... here's the pics I sent them:

congrads.. you have done on this what many of us have suggested...
others do on similar safety issues.
AoA knows safety issues like this are key and they need to take care of the driver and cover their buts.

same spot mine burnt though... AoA paid for my new leather and heater too, but I paid a bit extra
to have the dealer put in new foam padding as well. They are already doing the labor so they just charged me for parts, it was pretty cheap and now it feels like a brand new seat!
