Default Vague and non-specific noises -- ideas?

For the last few weeks I've noticed a sort of whirring sound from the engine. Sort of like the sound a dry motorcycle chain makes. Also there's a faint rattle at idle. With the hood open, the whirring is less noticeable and impossible to pinpoint. But the rattling is more noticeable and seems to emanate from the passenger-side cam. These are pretty subtle noises but definitely new. Am I paranoid? Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Default Whirring I would guess is a bearing, maybe a belt. Rattle I would look at heat shields.

If you are sure it is passenger side cam pull the valve cover, and have a look. There have been reports of cams shifting, and wearing out the lobes.

Thanks. I hadn't thought to look at the heat shields. And I'll pull the valve cover this weekend.
