Default Vertical to Horizontal Hitch Receiver - where to get or make?

Hi,
I'm about this close to getting a rear hitch , Westfalia one from PG Performance $1260 shipped to cali witt approx one month wait

From the searching and allroad faq, it seems the receiver on the hitch is vertical

Most bike racks (for 4 bikes) are for 2" horizontal receivers

I've seen some ppl say my local hitch shop made one

Can someone relay what the info on what shop has already done it (or even an online place that has them)

TIA

Default So westfalia is a round receiver, Bosal is square and seems easier to adapt to 2" square (US style)

Seems the Bosal is more suited for fab (or buying) a vertical to horizontal receiver to run a US style bike rack
Still looking into

Westfalia makes bike racks that connect to their receivers. I have seen them on ebay.de

dont get the one pictured because as soon as you hit level 1, you are going to have your hitch and attachments basically dragging the ground. i found a curved adapter that works perfectly. the 90 degree will work but will be too low to the ground. heres a pic or two of my ar with a thule t2 running the adapter on a factory hitch.

get the adapter from the folks at drawtite.com. give them a call and tell them what you are looking for. they ship incredibly fast too.

Default spoke to eurohitch.us bosal is also a round receiver

person suggested cutting the ball mount and welding a 2" receiver piece (commonly avail), says he had it done himself

about getting the adapter thant morecarsthanbrains spoke of looks exactly like what I need

have a call into drawtite.com (which is some place in plattsburg ? )

I want to run a t2 , yak hold up , sportworks or similar for up to 4 bikes

the ones I saw from westafalia aren't suitable for me, for dh bikes without removing wheels and not grabbing frame or cranks

will look some more tho and post results

also is it a draw-tite product or some other mfr?
I called etrailer.com and they are not aware of any such draw tite product

drawtite.com is where i got my adapter from. i drew up a 90 degree adapter and they came up with the curved, gooseneck adapter. its completely worth the 50 odd dollars. its stout and i had a relatively light weight hardtail and a built all mountain trek attached to a thule t2 and it didnt bounce or flex or anything. comes with a hitch pin too. very nice piece. go to drawtite.com and tell them what you are looking for, theyll know.

Default is the receiver part on your hitch square or rounded? (me thinks square)

From allroadcole's writeup, the North American hitch from audi had a square receiver albeit smaller in diameter
These westafalia and bosal racks appear to have their own, proprietary mechanism that looks rounded with a ball bearing lock

from what I gather, the towbar gooseneck ball mount is a euro standard and most things clip to the ball, not insert into a receiver

I am not sure if there could even be something that inserts into westfalia's or bosal's receiver

The best thing I found so far is a thule euro rack 909 , it attaches to the hitch ball, so no mods are necessary
But will have to import it, have inquires in on this as well

They whole rack project is looking upwards of 2k now...
And this is just to carry bikes in the back (park in garage so have to de-rack the bikes or store one (dirty) inside now)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2nSNrcaa6I</a

Default found an adapter made by draw-tite part 28351 , i think it will work with extinct NA hitches, but

not the westfalia or bosal
they both appear to have a rounded , vertical male/female receiver

I dont even know if their gooseneck are interchangeable with each other.
I'd venture to guess they are proprietary

So the options I see are:
1- get westafalia from pg performance with alum gooseneck and try to import a thule 909 or other euro bike rack
2- get a bosal from eurohitch.es with steel gooseneck and have a 2" receiver part welded
near where the ball would be so could run a us style bike rack
also get a spare gooseneck for regular towing
The person I spoke to there said they've actually done this

The north american version appears to have a square vertical receiver

http://www.draw-tite.com/fitguides/details.asp?ProdID=28351&dlr=0</a

youve got a nice list of rides there. ive got a trek liquid all mountain ride with about 5.5" front and rear, an iron horse hardtail race mountain bike and am about to buy a specialized transition expert. the hitch i have is the factory hitch with a 1.25" downward facing square receiver. i am glad i found an ar with a hitch already installed as i wouldve been going through the same thing you are right now.

heres a picture of the adapter i am running:

theres also a link to the part number on their site here:
