Very brief Allroad vs. S4 Avant comparison ... not technical
Well I've not got over 3,000 miles on the new S4 Avant and here are my simple, non-technical comparisons.
(1) Interior space in the S4 is significantly tighter than the Allroad. This is somewhat of an issue right now as the S4 is serving as the family car until my new company car (Taurus X crossover) arrives in a week or so. Rear leg room is definitely tight for adults if the front seats are moved back.
(2) Recaro front seats in the S4 are very nice (unless your rear end is oversized). Almost makes the allroad seats feel somewhat unsupportive even though this never bothered me prior to driving the S4.
(3) V8 exhaust note is very addictive. Makes you feel like just driving around the block every so often.
(4) Put the tip in S mode and it seems to really transform the S4 more so than what the S mode did in the allroad. Great acceleration and shifting points.
(5) Car definitely feels tighter and smaller when driving in the twisties.
(6) Overall MPG has been very similar even thou I did get about 22mpg in the S4 on a recent highway trip with the speedo set at 75mph.
(7) Maybe when the B8 S4 Avant comes out it will be the perfect combination of the allroad and the current S4 Avant.
(8) Even though I am now an ex-allroader I still find myself coming to this forum before visiting the S4 forum.

Great notes Jay, I may do the same as you in 2 years...
when the allroads warranty is up (CPO B7 S$ avant). I do worry about the room, me and my wife are both short so the rear may not be that bad.
As for #8 I was the same way after getting rid of the A3 it was just habit to go to that forum first, however I'm rarely there now.

love the S4 avant, but...
need the extra space.
Like the extra power-- yeah extra power. my 4.2 353(thank you apr 93 oct flash) vs your S4 343 -- just messin with ya /.o)
and then there's always those useful levels 3 and 4
na, your car is great and I was close to getting one instead of my ar, but really the space was the issue. Just felt tight. But that can be a really nice thing sometimes.
I really do have 353hp
