Default Warning lights on dash light up under heavy acceleration

Just bought a 2001 6-spd Allroad with 72,000 miles. Drove like a dream during the test drive. However, on drive home, I got into it a little more aggressively and some problems surfaced.

When accelerating hard, whether from a stop or doing a 60 to 80 mph pass in 6th gear, the engine seems to lose power above 4000rpms (surges as well) and four lights come on on the dash: ABS and Check Engine, a triangle with an arrow circling it (ESP I think), and a car icon with an up and down arrow in it (ride hieght?). Once I let up, the ABS and ESP lights go out, the check engine light sometimes goes out, and the car icon always stays on. They all reset when I turn off the car and start it back up. The car drives great when driven normal. No lights come. Even moderate acceleration is ok. It's only when I floor it does it seem to object.

Additional info, the car has an APR chip installed and I was running with 93 octane.

Thanks,
Jeff

Is this an actual chip or is it a flash?

Default Older GIAC cars had a similar problem, mine included. It might be the same thing

A wierd bug in the firmware of some cars made the programing do odd things. I think they were all 01 allroads that had the problem. Chech your code revision and inquire from APR if there is a new one.

Don't discount a boost leak if you lose power over 4K rpm.

I believe it's a chip, because the original chip is in a bag in the glove box.

Interesting. Could that mean a bad turbo? I've never had a turbo go bad on me so I am not sure what it would feel like. But if I had to guess, I would say that the surging feels as if maybe one of the turbos is not quite up to snuff. Is there a way to trouble shoot this?

Default If a turbo goes you will hear it and see large plumes of purty blue smoke

out the tail pipe. Leaks in the high pressure air system from the turbo to the throttle body cause boost leaks. I posted a write-up on checking for leaks on allroadfaq . Another option is vag-com it like Trango suggested.
