Washington DC Area Body Shop

Nothing so glamorous, I'm afraid, but a pisser nonetheless. The wife got hit from behind at an intersection, pushed her into the car in front, so there's damage on both ends. I don't really have a sense of how bad the damage is, or whether there are any mechanical issues. It seemed fine to drive, haven't tested the suspension yet. The way the car hit in the back, it really went under our bumper, ripping off the skid plate, plastic housing it's attached to, etc. Tailpipes, surprisingly seemed ok, but haven't really gotten under there to look. In the front, one quarter pannel/wheel well is pushed in, but just sort of rubbing in level 2. Haven't yet tried in level 1.
I was surprised when I called the dealer, they didn't want to seem to look at it, and told me to take it to a body shop. I am new to this, but I would have assumed they would want to first check it out to determine no mechanical issues, etc., and then make a recommendation as to a body shop. Are there Audi certified, or recommended body shops? Is it typical that the dealer wouldn't want to do the work, or at least handle/coordinate it themselves? Any insights, or shop recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm from the left coast, so can't help with recommending a body shop. When I saw my dealer about a scratch on my ar, then sent me to an independent body shop which rubbed it out for $20. I'd suspect that if I had a collision it would be the independent body shop that would handle all the work, since my dealer (Larsen Automotive) doesn't do body work.

When I crunched my car (A4 before the AR), I went to the dealer and they gave me a recommendation which I used. I would recommend that if your dealer doesn't know of anyone find a dealer in your area that could help you (if you can). These cars a complex and I have a problem with just anyone working on them. Good Luck

General view is that WagonWerks does great a great job but often a 6 to 8 week wait.
First Choice in Crystal City is great, according to my personal experience.

did absolutely brilliant work on my Porsche and I recommend them without hesitation. They did a full check on the mechanicals as well as the body, working with Porsche of Arlington [nee Heishmans] to ensure there were no problems [there weren't].
It took a few weeks to get into the shop, but they handled all the contact with the insurance company, advocating for me where there was some hesitation and in the end getting everything that I wanted.
Good luck with it.
