It seems that the water temp is slower to rise in the 4.2 than the 2.7. It takes 5 min or more for the gauge to start moving in 20 degree weather after sitting in the garage all night. Once it starts moving the temperature moves to normal and stays. The heater is working fine. Just seems like this is longer than it should take and is definitely longer than the 2.7. Wondering what others have noticed? Is there a way to check thermostat operation with VAG? Dealer stated if it's a problem it should be covered under CPO.

larger engine, greater coolant capacity, two more cylinders, no turbos.
Everythign about it would (IMO) indicate a slower build up of heat, especially no turbos.
The thermostat would come into play if it were overheating. Ie.. its stuck open or stuck closed.

2.7 is 6.3 qts and 4.2 is 12.7 qts. Figured there would be more but not twice the amount. Holds 2 qts more of oil also. I am sure this coupled with the turbo quicker warm up there would be a difference. My only thought was the thermostat not closing all the way, had this in the past. We'll see how it works in the below zero stuff.
Thanks...

my coolant was not correct and he had to add undiluted to get it to the proper formula for cold weather. btw the coolant is only available in a huge jug and costs $25 so if you have others around you when you need to adjust it you can share
