Yeah, they had just opened the road (and Independence Pass) the Friday before Memorial Day. I think the town was still mostly asleep between the skiers and the summer crowd.
It doesn't last long, though!

...we went up to Telluride on Memorial Day, but mud season was over and they were in the midst of a film festival, so it was packed.
What I should REALLY wish for, of course, is the sort of winter upcoming that will prevent them from opening Independence Pass by Memorial Day...THINK SNOW!!! HPH
