What does this mean on the back of the wheel center cap---

Probably because the cap has notches and stuff that line up with specific cutouts on the wheel.

The valve stem is just a reference point.

I'd guess it's so the audi rings are oriented in the same position on each wheel

Differential much? They wouldn't stay lined up for more then a few seconds.

maybe its suggesting that you can use the long prongs to bleed the valve stems.
