Default Whistle down the wind... passenger window

I have an irritating noise in my ear.... from the front passenger window when driving above 60mph, an intermittent whistle. This is not always there, but comes particularly when it is cold. I thought it was the door seals, but now pretty sure it is the window seal, as when I open the window a little, the whistle disappears and then comes back when the window is closed.

I have examined the seal, tried a piece of paper between the seal and window when closed and can't see anything obvious - of course a pinhole will be enough to cause a whistle! Anyone had experience of this and fixing it? Or do I need to get the dealer to fit a new sealing strip??

Thanks for your help.

Default search the b5-s4 forums.

i used to see this a lot a couple of years ago when i spent more time over there. there were some clever fixes. i'm wondering if it might be the trim around the door/window. j.

Default are you sure it is the window? my heater fan is starting to go

and kind of sounds like what you describe, it is of course worse in cold weather. the heater fan is right behind the glove compartment so from the drivers seat is in the same general direction as the passenger window.

next time you hear it try turning the fan completely off if it goes away, then run the fan with hot air on high for 5 full minutes. this will take care of it for a while, but if it is the fan will only delay the inevitable replacement.

Default Re: you don't by chance have a ski or bike rack or cargobox do you?

Thanks for suggestions. No ski rack or cargobox, so not down to that. I will try the heater fan as suggested, but since this is very much speed related (ie it goes away below 60mph) I am almost certain it is the window. Any other ideas? I might try inserting a small soft rubber strip between the 'V' of the the window sealing strip to push it outwards and make a better seal.
