Honestly I'd probably take either... and I say that without having spent any time to speak of in either car. I think you make some good points and are obviously coming at it from a subjective point of view.
Oh, did I mention that I'm jealous of your garage? :-)

After reading the first paragraph it was clear that this comparison was not going to be exacly balanced, so I won't quibble too much with thet the author's subjective evaluations, curious as I find some of them to be (X5=gorgeousl??)
However, I do feel compelled to point out some factual errors. The horsepower difference between the allroad and the X5 4.4 is 32 HP, not 50 as the author states. The author also fails to note that the X5 4.4 outweights the U.S. allroad by 562 pounds (13.3%), more than offsetting the horsepower advantage. In fact, the U.S. allroad w. Tiptroinc reaches 0-60 MPH in 7.3 s versus the X5's 7.5 mark.
In addition the allroad bests the X5 in almost every objective performance and utility category: better skidpad numbers, more ground clearance in offroad mode, lower CoG in onroad mode, more cargo capacity, etc. In fact the only category where the X5 posts betwr numbers is a very slight advantage in braking.
With all due respect, it appears to me that your girlfriend is the more astute judge of automotive excellence
